Pine Cultivation in Southern Brazil

Post-congress trip: October 6th to 12th, 2019.

In this seven days trip you will get to know the Pinus cultivation in the Southern Region of Brazil and see impressive landscapes, among them some forests dominated by Araucaria angustifolia. Four high-level companies will be visited, using Pinus as raw material. They will be able to meet and discuss with specialists the whole cycle of operations, from genetic improvement strategy, pest control, planting and maintenance to harvesting and transportation of wood.
The first day will only be for the trip to the first destination city, Canoinhas. On the second day we will visit the WestRock factory, one of the most traditional forest companies in Brazil. On the third day in the morning, we will go to Rio Negrinho, where Solida Brasil is located, specialized in high quality wood products, destined to the national and international market. Then a stop for lunch at a traditional steak house in the area and continue to the town of Lages. On the fourth day a visit in Klabin, in Otacílio Costa, a company of Brazilian origin, the largest producer and exporter of paper in Brazil. On the fifth day we will go to the city of Campo Belo do Sul for a visit to the company Gateados, which stands out for the quality of handling for production of logs with pruning and slabs. Then we go to our last stop, the city of Urubici. The following morning, we will see the exuberant natural beauties of the Urubici region, such as Morro da Igreja, the highest inhabited place in southern Brazil. To finish the tour, a visit to a regional winery with wine tasting. On the last day we will return to Curitiba.
This is a bus trip, starting in Curitiba on Sunday, October 6th and ending in Curitiba on Saturday, October 12th, 2019.

Eucalyptus Cultivation in Southern and Southeastern Brazil

Post-congress trip: October 6th to 12th, 2019.

On this seven day trip you will see the Eucalyptus cultivation in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil. You can also enjoy the springs of a spa with mineral and thermal waters and handcrafted delicacies produced in the región. You will see the full cycle of operations and will have the opportunity to discuss with experts from genetics improvement strategy, pest control, planting and maintenance to harvesting and timber transport.
The first day will only be for the trip to the first destination city, Telêmaco Borba. On the second day, a visit in Klabin, a company of Brazilian origin, the largest producer and exporter of paper in Brazil, where plots with more than 60 m³/ha/year can be seen. On the third day, in the morning, a visit in the ScanCom company, one of the market leaders in the field of garden furniture that has units in Brazil, Vietnam, North America, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Germany and Hong Kong. After lunch at a regional restaurant, we will head to Itapetininga. On the fourth day we will visit one of the forest sites of Suzano, the largest paper and pulp company in Brazil and the second largest in the world from Eucalyptus cultivation. At the end of the afternoon, we will go to Mogi Guaçu, our third destination. On the fifth day, the visit will be at the company International Paper, present in Brazil for over 50 years and an excellent level of operational development. At the end of the afternoon, we will go on our trip to our last destination, Águas de Lindóia. The next day, we will visit one of the springs of the region, followed by a visit to a regional farm of the region with a traditional lunch and finishing the day with an excellent colonial coffee with handcrafted products. On the last day we will return to Curitiba (it is possible to stop at Guarulhos International Airport on the way, if necessary).
This is a bus trip, starting in Curitiba on Sunday, October 6th and ending in Curitiba (with the option of stopping at the Guarulhos International Airport Guarulhos) on Saturday, October 12th, 2019.

Eucalyptus Cultivation in the Central-West Region

Post-congress: October 6th to 12th

In this seven day trip you will get to know the Eucalyptus cultivation in the Center-West Region of Brazil, which is part of the second largest Brazilian biome in extension, the Cerrado. We will visit one of the largest eucalyptus pulp mills in the world, Eldorado, with a production capacity of 1.7 million tons of pulp per year. We will also visit Fazenda Boa Aguada of Mutum Group, with Eucalyptus forest and cattle integration system and a modern MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) sheet plant. Besides all this you will have the opportunity to know one of the most beautiful landscapes of Brazil, with crystal clear waters and magnificent caves.
On the first day we will take a flight to the city of Campo Grande and as we disembark we continue the trip by bus to the city of Três Lagoas. On the second day we will visit the Eldorado factory. With a forest base with Eucalyptus urophylla, E. grandis, E. camaldulensis, as well as the hybrids of these species, the company mechanizes a large part of its operations. On the third day we will go to the city of Ribas do Rio Pardo to visit a farm of the Mutum Group, which has about 500 ha of Eucalyptus planted in a cattle and forest integration system. After the visit, we will go to the town of Água Clara. On the fourth day we will visit the new Asperbrás (GreenPlac) factory, which produces panels of certified wood destined to the domestic market, especially for the furniture industry. After the visit, we will have lunch at a regional restaurant and then we will travel to the city of Bonito. On the fifth day we will do one of the most beautiful tours in Brazil, the fluctuation on the Sucuri river, the third most crystalline water in the world. On the sixth day in the morning we will go to the Gruta do Lago Azul, the historical patrimony of the country. After lunch we will enjoy the afternoon in a regional resort, with several natural attractions, among them trails in the woods, waterfalls, natural pools and others. On the last day the bus departs in the morning to Campo Grande to catch the flight to return to Guarulhos International Airport.

Eucalyptus Cultivation in Southern Bahia

Post-congress: October 6th to 11th

In this six days trip you will get to know the Eucalyptus cultivation on the Northeast Region of Brazil, specifically in the South of the State of Bahia, which is characterized by three different biomes: the Atlantic Forest, the Caatinga and the Cerrado. You will see the complete cycle of operations at one forest-based company and will have the opportunity to discuss with experts from breeding strategy, pest control, planting and maintenance to harvesting and transportation of timber for use in industrial processes. Finally you will visit beautiful beaches in the quiet village of Trancoso.
On the first day we will fly to the city of Porto Seguro, our first stop. The next day we will visit the Veracel factory, a partnership between two leading pulp and paper companies in the international arena, Fibria, now Suzano, and Stora Enso.
On the third day we will return to Veracel to continue our technical visit. On the fourth day in the morning and we will visit an indian reservation to learn more about the customs and traditions of the Pataxós Indians. After lunch return to the hotel for check-out and then we go to the village of Trancoso, a quiet and charming place of Bahia. On the next day in the morning, depending on the tide, our tour will be in natural pools formed by barrier reefs. After lunch, return to the hotel and the rest of the day will be free so you can get to know the wonderful beaches of the area.
On the last day our transportation will take us to Porto Seguro airport to fly back to Guarulhos International Airport.

This is an airplane and bus trip, starting in Curitiba on Sunday, October 6th and ending at Guarulhos International Airport on Friday, October 11th.

Technical Visit to the Pantanal Biome

Post-congress: October 6th to 10th.

In this five days trip you will know the fauna and flora of one of the most beautiful biomes of Brazil, the Pantanal. One of the largest continuous wetlands on the planet, with 151,487 km², the Pantanal is recognized as National Patrimony by the Federal Constitution and is considered a Biosphere Reserve and Natural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco. This Brazilian biome has extremely rich biodiversity, with 3,500 known plant species, 463 birds, 124 mammals, 177 reptiles, 41 amphibians and 325 freshwater fish species.
On the first day we will take the flight to Campo Grande. Tonight you will participate in a traditional pantaneira night, with regional shows, live music and regional gastronomy. On the second day, we will go to another regional hotel, famous for its eco tourism. There we will have a talk with researchers from EMBRAPA PANTANAL – Brazilian Agricultural Research Company, in the morning. Followed by a characteristic lunch of the region. The afternoon activities are focused on eco tourism offered by the farm with a view of the region’s fauna and flora. The third day, will be of lectures and activities aimed at getting to know the biodiversity of the Pantanal region, with researchers from Embrapa. On the fourth day we will leave the region to the city of Bonito, passing by the beautiful Serra da Bodoquena, with a stop in the Nascente Azul – one of the most beautiful fluctuations of the city. On the last day our transportation will take us to Campo Grande airport for the return flight to Guarulhos airport.

This will be a post-congress airplane and bus trip beginning in Curitiba on Sunday, October 6th and ending at Guarulhos International Airport on Thursday, October 10th.

Technical Visit to the Amazon Biome

Post-congress: October 6th to 12th.

In this seven day trip you will get to know the Amazon Biome and visit research centers and companies that carry out sustained forest management in the region. The Amazon is an important biome with territory that corresponds to 6.9 million km² and covers nine countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana, Peru and Suriname. The Amazon rainforest is considered the largest tropical forest in the world. In addition, in terms of water resources, the water produced by the Amazon basin accounts for approximately one-fifth of all the planet’s surface runoff. In this trip we will see the handling and processing of certified tropical timber, forestry research institutes, including silviculture and management and at the end we will have a tour in Manaus and surrounding areas navigating the Amazon River and visiting riverside areas.
On the first day we leave Curitiba for Manaus. On the second day we will visit a farm where you will be able to know the planting and planting techniques of Bertholletia excelsa (nuts of Brazil). Then we will continue to the city of Itacoatiara. On the third day we will visit Precious Wood, a reference in sustainable management in the Amazon. On the fourth day we will go again to the company Precious Wood but now destined to visit the industrial and field operations areas in order to know the reality of the usual work of the company. At the end of the day we will return to Manaus. On the fifth day, the visit will be in an experimental station of INPA – National Research Institute of the Amazon, with a tower of 50 m of height to visualize the canopy of the Amazon forest. On the sixth day, we will sail through the waters of Rio Negro, visiting a museum with the history of latex, lunch in a floating restaurant and a view of the wonderful encounter of the waters. On the last day you can enjoy the morning to visit a little more of the city of Manaus, and after lunch we will go to the airport to catch the flight to Guarulhos.

Technical Visit to the Great National Parks of South America

Post-congress: October 6th to 13th.

In this eight days trip you will get to know a little about the management of some of the most beautiful and exuberant National Parks in South America: the Iguaçu National Park in Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and the Glacier Park in El Calafate in Argentina. We will also visit the largest Hydroelectric Power Plant in the World, Itaipu Binacional (which is not a park, but has a very extensive work in managing its areas and a fantastic restoration project in the 13,000 km dam and river banks).
On the first day we will leave the airport of Curitiba to Foz do Iguaçu. On the second day we will visit the Iguaçu National Park, where we will have a technical lecture about the park and its model of management and management of fauna and flora. On the third day we will visit the Itaipu complex, with the opportunity to visit the spillway, the biological refuge and a little of the surrounding area of the dam visiting some developed projects. On the fourth day we will go to the airport of Puerto Iguazu, in Argentina, to catch the flight to El Calafate. On the fifth day we will visit the Los Glaciares National Park with the assistance of the park managers for discussions and guides to explain the flora and fauna of the region. We will also take a boat trip to the front of the Perito Moreno glacier where you can see the detachment of ice sheets. The sixth day will be to navigate and see the other glaciers, Upsala, Spegazzini and Seco. On the seventh day we started our return, leaving from El Calafate to Foz do Iguaçu. On the last day we will return by plane to Guarulhos International Airport.

This is an airplane and bus trip departing from Curitiba on Sunday, October 6th and ending in Guarulhos on Saturday, October 13th.
