ABOUT IUFRO

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations – IUFRO, is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-discriminatory institution established in 1892. It is the global network for forest science cooperation that unites, on a voluntary basis, more than 15,000 scientists in nearly 600 Member Organizations from more than 126 countries.

IUFRO is also part of the CPF (Collaborative Partnership on Forests), a group formed within the framework of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), which brings together 14 international organizations, institutions and convention secretariats around the global forest agenda.

As an opportunity for technical discussions and knowledge sharing, IUFRO holds more than 70 technical-scientific meetings per year, regional congresses and, every five years, the world congress, which is its main event. The first IUFRO World Congress took place in Vienna, Austria in 1893, and the twenty-fourth and last, in Salt Lake City, USA, in 2014. These congresses are interdisciplinary, integrating scientific content and bringing together scientists, students, forestry companies, decision makers and other actors. In these occasions several opportunities are created for discussions related to research priority areas, forest policy and management.
