Technical Visit to the Amazon Biome

Post-congress: October 6th to 12th.

In this seven day trip you will get to know the Amazon Biome and visit research centers and companies that carry out sustained forest management in the region. The Amazon is an important biome with territory that corresponds to 6.9 million km² and covers nine countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana, Peru and Suriname. The Amazon rainforest is considered the largest tropical forest in the world. In addition, in terms of water resources, the water produced by the Amazon basin accounts for approximately one-fifth of all the planet’s surface runoff. In this trip we will see the handling and processing of certified tropical timber, forestry research institutes, including silviculture and management and at the end we will have a tour in Manaus and surrounding areas navigating the Amazon River and visiting riverside areas.
On the first day we leave Curitiba for Manaus. On the second day we will visit a farm where you will be able to know the planting and planting techniques of Bertholletia excelsa (nuts of Brazil). Then we will continue to the city of Itacoatiara. On the third day we will visit Precious Wood, a reference in sustainable management in the Amazon. On the fourth day we will go again to the company Precious Wood but now destined to visit the industrial and field operations areas in order to know the reality of the usual work of the company. At the end of the day we will return to Manaus. On the fifth day, the visit will be in an experimental station of INPA – National Research Institute of the Amazon, with a tower of 50 m of height to visualize the canopy of the Amazon forest. On the sixth day, we will sail through the waters of Rio Negro, visiting a museum with the history of latex, lunch in a floating restaurant and a view of the wonderful encounter of the waters. On the last day you can enjoy the morning to visit a little more of the city of Manaus, and after lunch we will go to the airport to catch the flight to Guarulhos.

This is an airplane and bus trip, starting in Curitiba on Sunday, October 6th and ending at Guarulhos International Airport on Sunday, October 12th.

The trip will be accompanied by a Forestry Engineer or Researcher with years of experience in Brazil.

Note: trip confirmation requires a minimum number of 20 participants.
